Figures from Q3 2011 showed a continued decline for Nokia. The finnish giant, that in 2008 was close to 40 per cent global markets share, was three years later almost halved with 23,9 per cent. In real numbers this was equivavelent to 420 million units on a yearly basis, compared to 470 million in 2008. Apart from the gigantic loss of market share for Nokia, the figures for 2011 showed no big surprises. Samsung is still a strong number to with close to 18 per cent share, while LG continues to slide, down from more than 7 to less than 4 per cent. Apple, who in 2011 often was referred to as the "worlds largest mobile producer", had in the third quarter of 2011 a market share of less than 4 per cent.
In the third quarter of 2011 total sales were 440 million units, equivavalent to approx. 1,8 billion units on a yearly basis, a 10 per cent increase.
